Volunteer Clearances and Background Checks

""

All parents/guardians wishing to accompany their child and their classmates on a field trip or help in classrooms in the Southeast Delco School District must have updated clearances on file with the school district. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT for Southeast Delco and has been in place throughout the Commonwealth in many school districts. (If you already submitted clearances last year, please let your child's homeroom teacher know if requesting to chaperone a field trip or volunteer in a classroom.)

More Information: http://www.keepkidssafe.pa.gov/cs/groups/webcontent/documents/document/C_135249.pdf

All volunteers/chaperones must obtain: http://www.dhs.pa.gov/publications/findaform/childabusehistoryclearanceforms/index.htm

  1. Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp; AND
  2. Child Abuse History certification from the Department of Human Services(Child Abuse) https://www.compass.state.pa.us/cwis/public/home

BOTH clearances listed above are AT NO COST to volunteers.

The FBI fingerprinting is NOT required AS LONG AS:

  • The position the volunteer is applying for is an unpaid position; AND
  • The volunteer has been a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the entirety of the previous 10 years.

(See page 2 of the first link)

Again, the first two clearances (PA State Police and Child Abuse History) are FREE. If you fall into the category where you have to be fingerprinted, there is a cost associated with that. Once fingerprints are done, they are good for 5 years.
