Kid Writing

Building early literacy skills in our youngest learners is a primary focus in Kindergarten classroom instruction.  One of the strategies we use to teach alphabetic principle and beginning writing development is Kid Writing. Developed by kindergarten teachers in the School District of Philadelphia, Kid Writing is taught in small groups where children draw a story of their choice, and then are guided by the teacher to write about that story by stretching out words and using the sight word wall to create their sentences in their journal.
